What treatment is right for me?

Depending on your needs, you may be offered medication, therapy, or both. We can discuss these options, how they may benefit you, and what to expect.

Medication management

Mental health issues can involve physiological changes in the brain and body. Medication offers a way to address unwanted symptoms and causes of some mental health problems. My recommendations are based on current standards of practice in psychiatry, using peer-reviewed scientific literature, in combination with experience from my training and clinical practice, and collaboration with colleagues.

My goal is to understand your experience and offer medication only when necessary or likely to benefit you, minimizing the risk of side effects or drug interactions, as much as possible. We can discuss the risks and benefits of each medication together and make sure you feel comfortable when making decisions about your care. My purpose is to provide my expertise, share my thoughts and collaborate with you to reach your goals in a safe and effective way.

Individual therapy

Psychotherapy is an evidence-based treatment for many mental health diagnoses and is also effective for personal growth, dealing with stress, relationship challenges, and more. I have experience using psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, supportive, mindfulness-based, dialectical-behavioral and other therapy modalities. I do my best to integrate these methods to suit each individual patient. It can be a powerful and life-changing experience to express yourself in a safe space, to understand yourself more and to shape yourself and your experiences for the better. I want to help you toward those goals with empathy and respect.

Why work with Dr. Combs?

The advantage of my practice is that it is personal and tailored to you. When you call or email, you speak with me directly or receive a call back from me. I have a small practice, so most clients will be seen within a reasonable amount of time and have more time with me, when needed. I work hard to start and end appointments on time, respecting you and your schedule. Virtual appointments are available for your convenience. I also set aside time for my own supervision and continuing education and prioritize communication with your other physicians, therapists or teachers when needed.
